Our library at SLE has an extensive variety of books available for student and faculty checkout. Also, we offer Accelerated Reader  . This is a wonderful program used as a supplement to our reading curriculum. Students select a fiction or non-fiction book to read and then take a computerized quizz over the book. Teachers use the information to check a student's reading comprehension. This is a fun way for students to master reading skills for each grade level.

Texas Bluebonnet Book Club

Sour Lake Elementary will host a Texas Bluebonnet Book Club. The participants should meet on Tuesday mornings at 7:30 in the library.

The Texas Bluebonnet Award (TBA) reading program was established in 1979 to encourage Texas children to read more books, explore a variety of current books, develop powers of discrimination, and identify their favorite books. One of the wonderful things about the TBA program is the opportunity that students have to participate in the democratic process. In order to vote for their favorite Bluebonnet, students in grades 4-5 must have read at least five of the books on the current 2009-2010 TBA master list. The children of Texas decide which novel takes home the Texas Bluebonnet Award. Students vote in January.

Please see Mrs. McCraw or Mrs. Love if you have any questions.
